Are ATS Checkers Legit?
Whether ATS checkers are useful, where they help, and where their limits start to matter.
ATS checkers can be legit in the sense that they may catch real formatting issues, missing keywords, or places where your resume is not aligned with a job description.
Their limits matter just as much. Most of them are not testing against the exact ATS used by the employer, and many produce scores based on private rules that vary from one tool to another.
That makes ATS checkers best used as rough diagnostics, not as final truth. If a checker helps you improve clarity or relevance, great. If it showcases skill gaps between the JD and your resume, even better.
If it pushes you toward awkward keyword stuffing or misleading claims, ignore that advice. Keyword stuffing can hurt readability, can look suspicious to recruiters, and may work against you in some systems.
In any case, a high ATS score for a job does not mean you will get an interview. Think carefully before ever spending money on that.
