Should You Add Photos on Your Resume?

When resume photos usually hurt more than help, and the few cases where they may still make sense.

In most cases, no. For many standard jobs, especially in the United States, a photo on your resume does not improve your qualifications and usually just takes up space that could be used for stronger content.

Photos can also create extra bias concerns, which is one reason many employers prefer resumes without them. If a recruiter wants to see more about you, they can usually find your LinkedIn profile instead.

There are exceptions. In some countries, industries, or role types, resume photos are more common or even expected. Acting, modeling, some public-facing entertainment work, and certain local job markets follow different norms.

A good rule is to match the market you are applying in. If you are applying for typical office, tech, business, or corporate roles, leaving the photo off is usually the safer choice.
